Mission Standard

RACHEL - Hello!

Thank you so much for the update on Grandpa and tell him I love him and that I'm praying for him every night for his recovery.

Well Stafford is doing well! This past week we were able to reach the Mission Standard of 4 new Investigators a week! Two of them were member referrals! Amazing! This area is slowly increasing its strength in the church in this part of the world here in England!

Sister Allison is wonderful! We were talking about how we are different, but our differences compliment one another and we have been able to learn quite a lot from one another, which I am so grateful for! She is amazing! I appreciate her influence and love for the work!

I have come to realize more and more how I do not become easily discouraged while on a mission. Yes, it’s sad when people use their agency to completely go the opposite direction, but I believe I have learned that from my dad. He helped me to understand the eternal perspective of all of our choices and how we always make a difference. So I am not upset when one person is not willing to listen but instead I move on to the next one until I am led to someone that will listen. We are always and constantly sifting through the sands to find the golden nuggets; the pure in heart! And believe it or not, they are out there waiting to be found even when they think they are not looking. How grateful I am for the Spirit and the direction it gives me if I but listen. And if we heed the Spirit's promptings we will find them.

One miracle we were able to experience last week was when Sister Allison and I were driving to an appointment with a member and as we were driving we past this woman with a baby in a push chair and my companion felt impressed to pull over and stop to talk to her. When we did, she was not interested at all and literally right after she began to walk away from us a man in a car pulled over right beside us and wanted to know where a certain street was. We couldn't help him with where he was going, but took that opportunity to give him a pass along card and to share with him how much it meant to us. He was very kind and said he would take a look as soon as he had the chance. The Lord works in beautiful ways; if we hadn't stopped to talk to the woman we would have never met the man in the car.

One of our new investigators is from Sri Lanka (a country off the southern coast of the Indian subcontinent). His name is “K” and he is Hindu. He speaks little English but is fluent in his language, Tamil. We were able to get a Book of Mormon in Tamil to give to him and we taught him outside on his front steps to his door one evening. It was amazing to teach him! We read the same passages in the Book of Mormon as he spoke in Tamil and even though we spoke different languages, he was able to understand us. That helped me remember a couple of things.  Of how important it is to learn how to teach simply and with clarity and how the real teacher is the Spirit, not us, we are the instruments. Also the Book of Mormon can literally answer any question we have. He at the end said the prayer as well! He went from believing in a God called Shiva (In the Shaiva tradition of Hinduism, Shiva is seen as the Supreme God.) to praying to Heavenly Father! I know change is real and possible.

Potential Investigators!!

TERESA - Hi ya!

So things this week have picked up for sure!! We taught someone, “Q”, last Monday night and even though we have yet to speak to him, he said he'd be baptized if he knew it was true!! And then we met with this other guy, “R”, and he said the same thing! He is out of town for a month at the moment but we set up a return app when he gets back. And we also met with a guy “A” who said he would get baptized as well when he has come to know and he came this Sunday!!! He stayed for all 3 hours and said he liked it! A RM (returned missionary), “A M”, totally helped fellowship him!! It was great! We are teaching him Tuesday night and earlier on Tuesday we have two other potential investigators apps! I can't even tell you how happy I am!! FINALLY we are seeing things happen here in Liberton!!  But it is seriously all the result of hard work, obedience, and the Lord's help. Without that, none of this would be happening right now!! I hope I can continue to strive to be better and always remain on the lookout for the elect. It's just so great because we are finding future priesthood holders!! And we so desperately need them!!! Things are looking great :).

So this week we had an interesting experience. We went by a member referral and it was this little old lady and she was really nice. We felt the spirit as we were talking with her and getting to know her and all that. But then a little later for some strange reason I felt really uncomfortable and unsettled. She talked about how people thought she was crazy and after she said that she just sat there with this odd stare. It was definitely NOT right at that moment. We gave her a pamphlet and said we'd come by again and left. I told Sister Woolley how I felt and she said she felt the very same thing! Yeah, creepy. I have felt like this before and even when I don't understand it I try to get out of the situation as fast as I can, because I know that that is how the Spirit speaks to me a lot of the time. It sounds silly but I feel it with my tummy, so I definitely have learned to identify those feelings and impressions! But it's amazing how much we don't realize the spirit when it's with us. I am so glad that because it is with me, it can give me those warnings that I need to get out. For instance another night, Sister Woolley and I were chapping this street of really nice houses but I started to feel really spooked so we got out of there. Apparently the next morning someone was found dead in the AP's area near where we were and it is under investigation! Coincidence? Maybe, but I feel that when we feel something is wrong don't question it, just go!  It's the Spirit talking to you. So that's something I have REALLY come to appreciate!! Now don't get worried, I live in a very safe area so no need to fear for my safety!!

I have been sleep talking again lately!! I thought I was done with that!! But nope! I kept doing QGC's in my sleep with an emphasis on setting up return appointments! It was so annoying! It's because I've got finding on the brain I suppose haha. How weird. It's really funny though. Sister Woolley and I are really starting to get to know each other more and it has been so wonderful! She really is an amazing missionary; she said that she just needs help on improving her people skills. And hey, if I say so myself, I'm not too shabby at talking with people ;) haha. I know we are companions for a reason! We are both here to help each other with our weaknesses so they can become stronger! I love Sister Woolley and things are going so wonderfully!!

Rededicated

TERESA - Hello hello!

Ok sooo much has happened! I am training Sister Woolley now and it has been so great! I have learned sooo much and I have improved as a missionary too! It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be but it is at the same time you know? I have rededicated myself to the work and I have been striving to be more exactly obedient! And honestly, blessings have come as a result of that. You can just see and feel the difference :).  I am a lot more satisfied with my work because I know I am doing the very best I can!! You think I would have gotten this before! Also, Sis Woolley and I are related! We looked on our pedigree charts and my 4th generation Great Grandpa is her 3rd. Crazy huh?! It is so great though; we were both so stoked to find that out.

The week Sister Woolley arrived; we dedicated ALL of our time pretty much to finding! We didn't have anyone so we decided to fully focus on that and to pray about where we could go specifically each day to find someone who is ready. And doing that, we exceeded the standard of excellence for QGC's in a week!! And we found a few potentials as a result of that! So this week we are seriously enjoying the fruits of our labors. So many people are texting us and wanting to meet with us! We also had a real good lesson with a guy named Quinton of YSA age last night so we are really hopeful for that! Things are really picking up in this area now. And I really feel that its all because we are putting aside ourselves and going to work and following the white handbook as best we can. Heavenly Father has blessed us with so much and I am excited to be a missionary here in Edinburgh at this time! This is such a wonderful mission!!

I want to share with you an interesting experience that happened last week. We had some extra time before this one dinner app so we went chapping. The very last door we knocked on was this woman Dawn. The more and more we spoke with her, I felt something that I had never felt before with a complete stranger, and that was that I felt this immense amount of love for this lady and I really did care about her. She was so receptive and wanted us to come back this next week. She was different and I could feel it. She is ready to accept the gospel and I am so very excited to see her and talk to her about how her life can be complete!! She wasn't like the others we usually run into, I am telling you, she is prepared!! I CANNOT wait!

But I have been feeling so much better since the start of this moves! It has totally changed for me and so much for the better!! I have reset some goals for myself and I know that if I do ALL that I can (being exactly obedient) then I will see my dreams come true! This is such an exciting time and I am honored to be apart of this great work. Extraordinary things are going to happen.

I was ill...

RACHEL - Hello family,

How is Grandpa doing? Is he improving? Tell him that I pray for him every night and that I love him!

This week has been rather uneventful due to me having to stay in because I was ill. I have had a cold for the past 2 1/2 weeks and it has gradually gotten worse. It turned into a fever on Tuesday. President and Sister Bullock said I had to stay in for a couple of days to let my body try to recover. At first I tried to resist and go outside after I called for permission to go work, but that didn't last long as I realized I really was sick. Sister Dell took such great care of me and then Sister Allison then took over and tried to help as well. So I have been quarantined for the past couple of days. We went to the Doctor and he gave me some antibiotics and I have been taking them. I am feeling like I am beginning to recover now instead of it getting worse. So I am very happy that I am out and about now and fulfilling my purpose!

On Monday, Sister Dell and I were able to receive two referrals from a member and now we have one new investigator from her wonderful missionary efforts! She is a part member family and so we now have the goal to help them all come unto Christ! I have come to greatly appreciate member referrals, even if in the end the individual they referred us to was not interested, it has been great to have the help of members who literally want their neighbors, family members, and friends to have the same happiness they have. All we have to do is invite and that is how we become successful missionaries, not if baptism is a result but if we simply invite because that is all we can do. Us missionaries love member referrals, so help out your full time missionaries!!

Sister Allison and I really only had about 1 1/2 days to really work and it has been a pleasure serving with her. I do believe that Stafford needs an English Sister, as I believe I have already said to you in my last letter. The Branch has really been improving and we want to help it reach it's full potential. There are unfortunately quite a few less active members and I do believe that if we were able to re-activate all of them we would have a Ward! So that is our next important goal at hand! I wish before my mission I made a greater effort to try to reach out to those struggling with their testimonies. I really do know that there is so much we can do to help those who do need to be lifted and by strengthening them, we strengthen our own testimonies. What a great opportunity it is to be the Savior's hands and to serve our brothers and sisters.

I am very grateful for the opportunity I have to serve a mission; I would have it no other way. I simply know that this gospel is true. I know Joseph Smith had one question to know of the truth and received an answer from Heavenly father and the Savior themselves. I know that the authority of God is on the earth again and it is in His church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Through God's plan of Salvation we can know how to keep the relationships with the ones we love and have them last even after death. The power of the Holy Ghost is real and those who read of the Book of Mormon can know for themselves can receive a witness from the Spirit of it's pure and precious truth. I know that it is only through Jesus Christ we can be able to have a way to return to our father in Heaven again someday. I love missionary work and the happiness I feel everyday from doing it. I simply know this is true.

Sisters Meeting & an English Sister

RACHEL - Dear Family,

I heard about Teresa training and that is amazing! I am sure that she will be great for her new Sister! So Congratulations Teresie!

The Sisters Meeting was amazing! Sister Dell and I were the last ones to arrive because our train got delayed but we were there just in time! In the beginning, the Assistants to the President gave a training on Companion Exchanges and how these exchanges are suppose to be life changing and how we can get the most out of them. Then we were given a talk by President Bullock about leadership and that was amazing! It was about going from Good to Great and how good is the enemy of great...I learned so much! Then we had lunch and then Sister Bullock gave a talk on dress and grooming and then all of the Senior Sisters gave 3-4 min training/talks. There were on How to have effective Nightly planning, How your family is blessed when you serve, How to lift and encourage others, How to treat and communicate with Elders/Men, How to have effective District Phone calls every night, How to work with the members, Companionship unity, and many more. We all taught each other throughout the entire meeting! At the end we had a question and answer session by President and Sister Bullock and that was wonderful! My appreciation for my Mission President and wife grew a hundred fold! I love them dearly, they have changed my life.

I have a new companion! Her name is Sister Allison! She is from Nottingham, England and is 23 years old. She is sooo nice and I do believe Stafford is in need of an English Sister! I know miracles will happen in this next transfer!

I have been ill for the past 2 weeks and yesterday I had a fever which is not the first time on my mission :D but I am determined to fight it and to not have a sniffly nose anymore!

Let everyone know I love them! And thank you mom and dad for being so wonderful!

New Training Companion

TERESA - Hi ya!!

Moves call was last night and Sister Peterson is leaving to go home and I'm staying here in Edinburgh. And I am training a brand new missionary!!!! Ahhhh! I am totally terrified! haha My whole mission I scraped by with being junior companion and now I'm a trainer?! No way! Golly gee wiz this is mental. But I had a feeling even though I am never right about these things I thought that maybe I would. Even talking about it gives me butterflies! One of the AP's, Elder Young, told me that they were really praying about it (there is only one sister coming in this moves) and they felt that I should be the one to train her! How nice is that? This is going to be something. I thanked my mission President for trusting me and he said, "Don't thank me, thank Heavenly Father. You will never work harder than you will now." haha Whoa! It is so true as well. I need the push!

This is my second half. I like to compare it to field hockey where as maybe in the first half I didn't play so well. I let a lot get by me and it's like what Potty (our coach) (His real name is Mr. Potmesil so you can see where the nickname came from!) would say, he'd say, this is a new half, new game now. Forget the first half and start fresh, this is your game now, not theirs. And that comparison really has helped me on my mission. I'm ready to get back in there and play my hardest, work my hardest. If I wasn't happy with my play/work in the first half, forget about it and do better this time around. I know it sounds silly and obvious but this really hit me a little while ago. And with training I know it's Heavenly Father's way of giving me that opportunity to be better this time around. Because with training, I HAVE to step up my game, there is no question. So I am ready and willing to give it my all this time around and I am so very grateful that I have the chance to do and be better! This is exactly how repentance is as well. It doesn't matter if you've messed up before. Make it right and move on and do better. That is what I love about the gospel. It is full of second chances and Heavenly Father is going to always be there to help you every step of the way. There is no doubt in my mind that He will help me! He wants me to succeed so why on earth would He leave me alone? He wouldn't. And let me tell you, I am so very glad for that knowledge!!

It's like I am building that bridge of faith. Where I know I need to do something but I have no idea at all how I'm going to do it but I have to put my trust completely in my Savior. For example, and this may seem silly but it so applies! In "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade" Indie's dad (Sean Connery) gets shot and so he HAS to find the Holy Grail now to save his father's life. But it gets to this part where he has to cross this huge ravine and it just looks impossible with no way over it. But he sees in his book that it is possible and his dad says that he just has to believe. And so Indie takes a deep breath and says it's a leap of faith and then takes a step into the ravine only to find that the bridge was there the entire time but he just couldn't see it from where he was standing. And that is exactly how it is with us. Sometimes we have NO idea how we are going to get from A to B but we know it is possible even when it seems impossible. So when we put all our trust in our Savior He will show us and direct the way that was there all along with His help. He knows we can do it. The only thing that holds us back is us and our lack of faith. Crossing the ravine is not the hard part, our Redeemer's got that covered, it's getting us to take that first step and trust that He does have it covered. I know that even though we can't see it all the time, the way to reach our potential is ALWAYS there. I know that with the help of Heavenly Father I seriously can do anything. Why do we limit ourselves??

I am sooo stoked for my second half of my mission because it will blow the first half out of the water. I can always improve and be better and this is the time to shine! haha So my companion will be Sister Eliza Woolley (who knows, maybe we're 3rd cuzzies!) and I am so excited to learn from her and all that she has top offer! This will be good. There is much to look forward to. Now all I have to do is have the confidence to get around Edinburgh (2nd largest city in all of Scotland) with no help of someone who's been here longer! But it will be fine :)

I am so grateful to be here now. I love my mission and I know it's helping me to become the best I can be. And boy do I need it! haha But thank you so very much for all of the love and support Rach and I have received from you all! WE love you guys so much! Thank you! I am so happy to hear about grandpa!! I am always praying for him.

RACHEL - Hello!

Thank you for all of the Birthday wishes and cards that Teresie and I received! I loved the candy bar letter mom and dad, it was very tasty (Sister Dell thought so too!)! My whole Zone thought it was a giant Toblerone bar haha!

Tell Amelia I am a little sad that I didn't receive a Wedding invitation and that she didn't wait for me to go to her wedding! haha I'm just teasing, but I would at least like to see who her husband looks like :) But tell her I say Congratulations and that I love her! I'm happy that you were able to see Lauren, tell her I love her too and that I hope to hear how she has been doing lately!

Thank you for keeping me updated with Grandpa, I am happy to hear that he is getting better each day! I am excited to see him again and to tell him all the things that I have learned on my mission! Tell him I love him with all of my heart and that I pray and fast for him often!

At this point in Stafford it is all about rebuilding our entire teaching pool. Because our now former investigators have their agency, they are now no longer investigating the church. S. C. because of the law of Tithing and J. W. because of a lot of family opposition. But they both know that this gospel is true because they had simply received a spiritual confirmation.  

But the way I look at it is exactly what my Mission President has been saying to us all along. We are sifting through the sands to find the golden nuggets, the pure in heart, those that are prepared! So I know that miracles are going to happen more here and that if I am a prepared servant of the Lord, then the Lord will send prepared people to me to help introduce the Gospel to them!

We were able to witness a miracle together when we made an appointment to see a former investigator. When we had arrived to our appointment, he wasn't there but his land lord/ex-partner was. She was lovely and she spoke to us about how the world seemed to be falling on top of her. We explained to her how she had a loving Heavenly Father and a Savior. We read Alma 7:11-12 11And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people. 12And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities. with her and replaced her name there. She felt the Spirit and since we were pressed for time, we asked if we could come back to teach her more and she said yes! WE are excited to see many more miracles here!

I have loved serving with Sister Dell, she is an amazing example to me and such a hard worker. We get along like we have been friends for so long and I am so grateful for her companionship! It is interesting how now I can look back so far with every one of my companions and know now why I was placed with them for a specific purpose and reason. But I know that my best companion that I will have with me on my mission is the Holy Ghost. I am very grateful to have the closeness to the Lord and the Spirit to receive spiritual promptings. I am determined that I want to know without a doubt that Heavenly Father can trust me. That He will know that if He places someone in my path that is prepared, that I will speak to them when prompted by the spirit. I am excited about the thought of becoming like my Savior, because He is my Example and who I want to be like. I truly want to become like Him. I am so happy and grateful to my decision to serve a full-time mission, I am changing and I am very happy about that and I want this change to be a permanent change no matter what.

Tomorrow we are having a special Sisters Meeting at the Mission Home! All the Sisters from the Mission we be there and I honestly don't have any idea what to really expect except to be excited for it! Sister Bullock (the Mission President's wife) called me earlier this past week and asked if I would like to give a 3-4 minute talk to all the Sisters on the topic of how to stay positive and what to do when your area is struggling. I was really surprised when I got that phone call. But she said I would be perfect to give that talk to all of the Sisters. That was really nice to hear and now I have completed it and am very excited to give it! I will let you know how it goes!

TERESA - Hello Family!

 

First of all, Happy Birthday Erika!! 25 huh? That's so neato! Hope you enjoyed it! I am also so glad to hear that Grandpa Coombs is doing better!! I knew he would, he's a tough cookie :). I fasted for him yesterday so I know that will help as well. Thank you for keeping me updated! Keep it up and let him know I love him!

 

And Congrats to Amelia!! Can you send me an invite or pictures from the wedding? I would love to see who she's picked out haha. Where is she going on her honeymoon, anywhere nice?? And I'm so glad to hear that our darling Lawen is still single! That way I can see her be sealed in the temple someday!! Oh wow, wouldn't that be nice huh? I'm so excited to see you all when I get back :)

 

OK then, this week was good. Two sets of sisters blitzed our area while they were staying here for two nights for fundamentals meetings at the mission home. So it was nice to spend some time with them, as well. And we got a few potentials from their efforts, which was nice. Unfortunately when we phoned them up, most of them were too busy or incorrect numbers. One guy was super inappropriate and then phoned stalked us after that! No fun! But we blocked the number so hopefully we won't get anymore prank calls...haha the joys of missionary work. No, it's really not that bad, I REALLY enjoy being here and serving! I don't even care if I get hassled for it- that just means more blessings!

 

So we visit a convert, Lynn, who's been a member for 4 years and she is lovely. She is single and has a daughter that has Angelman syndrome (I think that's it) (Angelman syndrome (AS) is a neuro-genetic disorder characterized by intellectual and developmental delay, sleep disturbance, seizures, jerky movements (especially hand-flapping), frequent laughter or smiling, and usually a happy demeanor.) Lorna, is 13 and she is totally beautiful! She can't speak but can say "yeah" and sign to you. I love her so much. Lynn says that if you treat her like she has special needs then she will act like it but if you don't she doesn't and it's so true! So we act totally normal to her and she responds well to that. I think a lot of the times people don't know how to act or be around people with special needs because they are afraid. They aren't used to it and then feel like they have to treat them differently or avoid them. But since the Edinburgh ward has actually quite a few people that are mentally handicapped I have gotten used to it and don't see them as anything different, it's not a big deal. Really though, I am convinced that they help us to be better, not the other way around. But I am really growing more out here and becoming more and more comfortable everyday with situations that could ever be construed as awkward. I love it!

 

So we are really focused on finding right now. We aren't teaching anyone as of right now but we also fasted and prayed for that yesterday as well. I really hope we find someone or even a family would be better! But the other day we were at an appointment with a member from New Zealand and she was talking to us about prayer. And I really loved it because it helped me to view prayer in a different way. She read something from Jesus The Christ (pg.238) by James E. Talmage, and this is it:

 

It is well to know that prayer is not compounded of words, words that may fail to express what one desires to say...words that may be spoke to impress mortal ears. The dumb may pray, and that too with the eloquence that prevails in heaven. Prayer is made up of heart throbs and the righteous yearnings of the soul, of supplication based on the realization of need, of contrition and pure desire. God without our prayers would still be God; but we without prayer cannot be admitted to the kingdom of God. So did Christ instruct: "your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him."

 

I LOVED that. I realized how my prayers need to improve by just reading this bit. I know that prayer isn't that we phone up our Heavenly Father and leave a voicemail, it's when we sit and have a conversation with Him. How often do I do that? If my prayers were always made up of heart throbs then I think I would be a rlot more in tune with the spirit all the time. I know that Heavenly Father already knows us and our individual needs.  He is so aware of us no matter the struggles we face and is always there for each and everyone of us individually. If we took the time to always pray with sincerity then we would always know that. He wants us to. So why don't we try harder? I loved that. So I thought I would share it with you.

 

Sister Peterson leaves in a week so next time I email I will have a new companion. Oh my goodness! It is crazy how fast time flies by. This moves will be over soon and I will have a new companion and I will be leading the area! Please pray for me! It's a BIG city! haha. But I have a question for you mom. I found out that the new sister coming in is an Eliza Woolley from Romona, CA in the San Diego Stake. When I saw the name Woolley I just about died! Is she related to us?? That would be soooo amazing to have a 3rd cousin or something in my mission!! I don't think Woolley is that common so it could be right?? I hope so! That would be the best ever! :)

The Holy Ghost is essential

TERESA - Hello all!

OK, so I can't even begin to tell you what has happened!! A lot of it is really personal and sacred but it seriously changed everything for me. I feel sooo happy! I can't even express how good I feel :) I am so glad to be here serving my Heavenly Father and to be learning all these new things.

So uh yeah, I keep forgetting that it was my birthday haha, and the Happiest late birthdays to Rach and Sheila!! I love you both loads!

Our weeks have been getting busier and busier and it has been a really nice change of pace! We are getting more involved with the ward members and so we are seeing a lot more of them throughout the week. Our numbers on new people to teach aren't too high at the moment but hopefully with all the member work we're doing, they will be more comfortable to let us teach their friends. And to who ever is reading this: Give the missionaries your friends to teach!! You all have somebody. Just pray to know who is already ready and prepared and Heavenly Father is going to let you know. He wants you to know! Honestly, don't take away their agency by not inviting them to learn more about their Heavenly Father's plan for them. They need this just as much as you do! Give them that chance for them to say yes or no. Either way, they will feel loved to know that you care about them to share what makes you happy with them. The ones that stick in the church are the ones who are already friends with the members. So I invite you all to pray to know who is ready! So we are getting excited. There is much to look forward to. President Griffiths said that the mission is changing and is now moving in the right direction and so of course the adversary is going to try to do all he can from stopping the work from progressing. So we are working on it!

So I was in the program for the missionary highlight this last Sunday! It was interesting...haha. But they are just starting to do this so that is good that they are trying to get to know us! But I just thought it was funny that I was the first one they did.

So like I said earlier the numbers on finding people to teach are slim to none. And it seems that no one wants to speak with us! Haha gee. But this last Sunday we were QGCing (Quality Gospel Conversations) on our way to chapping and everyone was just blowing us off, we were having no success. And I was getting really tired of all the no's. So I said a little prayer to myself (I found out later that my comp did as well) and I was just asking Heavenly Father for one; just one person who will listen to us and want us to come back to teach them. That was all, because it was getting really tiresome to be honest. But after I had said the prayer the very next door we chapped was a girl YSA age and she said we could come back!! Boy, I was sooo happy! It was great; she seemed super sweet as well. I am getting more and more of a testimony on answers to prayers! I am loving it. He will always help us when we ask. I love Him!!

So this takes us to Monday. We had Zone Development, which was great as always. They asked me to sing so I did "Come Thou Fount" I didn't sound nearly as good as it does with Rach but I was happy with how it turned out :).  We went over the Doctrine of Christ and tools that will help our investigators progress. It was a refresher of what we had just learned on last Tuesday (the 22nd) at our Aberdeen Tri-Zone Conference. It was great! I really participated and as one of my favorite sayings go: Participation invites Revelation. It is so true! And I did. I received personal revelation on how to deal with certain issues I've been facing lately. It is so wonderful. But anyway, that has been great.

Well the real story begins after the Conference. Haha well, remember how I said we were going to go to the Edinburgh Dungeons? Well… whatever you do, NEVER go there! It is not at all what we expected it to be. I'd tell you more but I don't have time to write it all. But I will send a letter to you, mom and dad, about it. This experience changed everything and don't worry, for the better! Because now I know how real the Spirit is and how real it is to feel it gone. For now, I'll tell you that the Holy Ghost is essential to being happy because with out it you are utterly miserable. It's harder to notice when you have it with you all the time, but I'll tell you one thing, you sure as anything notice it when it's gone. I realized that we have to live our lives in such a way that we can feel the promptings of the Spirit. And I am so very grateful to my Father in Heaven for this little lesson. I feel so happy now and I couldn't imagine being without it anymore. It is vital that we stand as witnesses of God at ALL times and in ALL things and in ALL places whether you're a missionary or not, because most importantly, we are children of God and that is far more important to realize. Elder Hyrum Smith (not THE Hyrum Smith) gave a talk and one part really jumped out at me: "We do not have the right to do all the dumb stuff that everybody in all the world is doing now. The Lord has sent us here to accomplish some great task. Live up to the expectations that you brought with you when you got here." I LOVED that!! We can't afford to be stupid. Through this experience it brought our Zone and Mission President closer together :) I am so grateful that I am in this mission and that I have the chance to serve in Edinburgh!!

A Family with 13 Children!!!

RACHEL - Dear Family,

Thank you so much for the Birthday love that you sent to Teresa and I all the way over to the UK! Thank you for the Candy Bar letter Mom! We loved it and appreciate it!

In my Mission, the assistant to the President has the same Birthday as me! I thought that was great! His name is Elder Llguno and lives in Spain; he's a great example to me.

I have recognized that I am so blessed to be serving with such great spiritual giants around me. All of the Elders in this Mission are striving to become like Christ and to be Sacred. They are all an example to be about how I can be better and they show me how age does not matter when it comes to diligence and true consecration. How grateful I am for my Mission!

This week we witnessed a miracle. We received a referral from the Mission Office. This young woman's name is J. W. who is 20 years old. Apparently she was with a friend who wasn't a member who happened to have been given a Pass Along Card by either a member or a missionary and J. said she wanted to take a look at it. It was the one that had a number to order a free Finding Faith in Christ DVD and so she called it to receive one and so we were the Missionaries to deliver it to her! We taught her the first lesson and now she wants to be baptized! What makes the story even better is that her mother is a less active member of the Church and so this will be a great opportunity to help her come back! This family consists of 13 children! That would make our little branch grow so much! What a wonderful miracle!

My Birthday was wonderful and the Best Birthday I have ever had! Sister Dell made me a little Birthday banner and made me breakfast! Eggs Benedict, it was delicious! She also made me a Banana bread/cake! She is so wonderful! I am so blessed to be serving with such a wonderful Missionary! She is always recognizing that we can always improve and helps me to be more diligent. The day followed with teaching our investigators, P. D. whom we taught the Word of Wisdom to and hasn't had a cigarette in 2 days so far! So happy for him! Then S. C. and taught the Ten Commandments. We then taught J. and watched the Restoration film with her! We ended up not having enough time for tea so we skipped it and taught our two 8 and 10 year old investigators that evening and taught the Plan of Happiness! That day was perfect and in between those lessons we street contacted to each appointment. Sometimes I would forget that it was even my birthday! That's a good sign ;)

Mother's day here in England is apparently in April. I think on the 13th..? Haha I'm not quite sure but I know it's in April so I am not sure if I will be calling home then instead of May. But I will let you know :)
